The highest point of the Macizo Central mountain range is also the home of the only ski lodge in all of Galicia: Cabeza de Manzaneda, open in the Winter months and during all the year.
In contrast with the peak of this mountain, the descent is marked by small valleys and treacherous slapes until it reaches the Banks of the Bibei river.
The remains of ancient Stone age settlements are scattered along the roman road called Vía Nova. the count of lemos and the Benedictine monastery of San Salvador de Sobrado de Trives controlled this mountain in Medieval times , as it was an important meeting place for Galicia nobility in the 19th century. In addition to being an important comercial and hospitality center _ the Casa Grande de Trives is the birthplace of Galicia´s burgeoning rural tourism industry_, agricultura is an important industry here, with chestnuts, honey and meat products (lamb, goat, beef and pork) being particularly noteworthy. Most local families have their own gardens and raise their own pigs for consumption, and the regional matanza (seasonal slaughter of great cultural significance) is known for producing gastronomic delicacies such as the BICA mantecado , a delicious local sweet .
